MEDICAL AND LEGAL DETERMINANTS

18 NOVEMBER 2017

9.00 AM - 4.00 PM

INVITATION

The relation between the mother and her unborn child is unique and calls for the review of widespread anthropological convictions. This exceptional bond of two independent persons requires some new insights into the autonomy of the human being which, in today’s culture, has become the central category of social life.

Current research findings clearly show that the health of the mother impacts the growth of her developing child. Moreover, the course of pregnancy will significantly influence the mother’s body also upon the childbirth. At the same time, the health of the woman, in particular her procreative health, has now becoming the topic of a vivid public debate.

These circumstances gave us an impulse to organize the Conference on “The course of pregnancy and the health of the mother: medical and legal determinants”.

This is the second edition of the conference of the Bioethics Center of Ordo Iuris Institute for Legal Culture. This year conference is co-organized together with the Warsaw Family Alliance Institute of Higher Education.

First of all, this gathering will be an opportunity to discuss in interdisciplinary perspective major interdependencies between the course of pregnancy and the health of the mother.  The list of discussed topics will include:

  •  Issues of physical and mental health of the pregnant woman
  •  Legal context of motherhood protection
  •  Relation: father - mother - conceived child
  •  Psychosocial aspects of functioning of the pregnant woman in the family
  •  Ethical and medical issues in court cases concerning parental losses
  •  Social, legal and medical challenges for the functioning of perinatal hospices
  •  Functioning of pregnant women covered by the assistance of care centers,
  •  Psychological insight into the relation between the woman and the child developing in pregnancy

We do believe that the conference will become a forum for a more comprehensive discussion on motherhood, and will help further deepen our insights into humanity.
